Moreand more often in the last period I listen, read or have conversationsabout where the need of diversifying the “historical” figure from the“fantasy” one is discussed. The requests are almost the same, to make sepa-rate contests (not categories!) or at least to assign two different Best of Show, one for each category. I don’t like this idea in sharply dividing participants.,even more so because in 99% of cases those who say this are fans of historicalfigures. Sharing the same passion and being a part of this world since beforefantasy was so popular, I remain puzzled. I can understand the enthusiast ofhistory and uniforms that criticizes a precise piece or those totally invented justto pursue some artistic taste. A Greek hoplite did not have his shield decora-ted like a Leonardo’s painting, and a Napoleonic soldier used gears and wea-ponry prescribed and didn’t have an electric blue uniform! But if the modellerwishes to build Napoleon riding a jet motorcycle whilst holding a pulse gun, ifwell sculpted and painted, I do accept it and I think it is coming from a paral-lel world. What’s wrong with this? What does scare us about fantasy? We allgrew up with fairy tales, didn’t we? We do accept that a piece of wood, thanksto a fairy godmother and a talking cricket, friend of a cat and a fox, may beco-me a child after having been transformed into a donkey and having been swal-lowed by a whale, but we can’t stand the view of an ogre fighting against adwarf mounted on a dragon? Besides, fantasy enthusiasts have introduced anew and incredibly fascinating way of sculpting and painting, bringing ourhobby to high technical levels. Most of all they brought what had been lackingfor a long time, the enthusiasm and the desire of staying together like in thepast World Model Expo: you could see them laughing and having funeverywhere. If this is not enough, remember that the average age of “histori-cal” modellers is advanced and that if instead of pushing them away, we couldexplain and help them to see that that history, with uniforms and weapons, isjust as fascinating, if not more so, as one of Tolkien sagas, helping them toextricate between a sabretache and segmented armour, maybe our lead sol-diers will keep being stronger and present. Let’s stay united, let’s have fun,we’ll get stronger!Un abbraccioGiovanni AzzaràCreated in Italyhttps://www.facebook.com/pages/SOLDATINI/113176252048573?bookmark_t=page [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
